Gliadin and Celiac disease
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the small intestine. Disease symptoms include diarrhoea, weight loss, abdominal bloating, malnutrition and skin reactions. This inflammation is caused by gliadin, the protein component of gluten, contained in wheat, barley, rye, spelt and many other cereals.
Three groups of people affected by gluten
- Wheat allergy
- Gluten intolerance
- Celiac disease

Celiac disease occurs in approximately 1% of the world’s population, according to Celiac Sprue Association, Relatives of people with celiac disease are more likely to have celiac disease, celiac disease is the most serious disease of gluten intolerance, this autoimmune disease may cause damage to the digestive system, therefore patients with celiac disease must follow a gluten-free diet.
Gluten-free diet is specifically beneficial to people who are allergic to gluten and celiac patients. Gluten does no harm to normal healthy individuals so it is unnecessary for us to go gluten-free.

Common symptoms of celiac disease
Includes diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating or other nondigestive symptoms like itchy, iron-deficiency anemia, headaches and fatigue.

Celiac disease and Irritable bowel syndrome
The rate of irritable bowel syndrome among urbanites is higher than that of celiac disease. Both can cause symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain, further testing is required to differentiate between them. Celiac disease can be discriminated by a celiac disease test.

Results
Positive: Two coloured bands appear in the reading window by the T (test) and C (control) signs. The intensity of the T band may be lower than that of the C band. The test must therefore be considered positive regardless of the intensity of the T test band. This result shows the presence of anti-DGP antibodies in the blood and therefore probable celiac disease. Contact your GP to continue with diagnostic procedures.

Negative: A coloured line appears only under the C (control) sign. This result means there are no anti-DGP antibodies in the blood or that their concentration is below the test’s detection limit.

Non invalid result: No bands appear or there is a line only under the T (test) sign and not under the C (control) sign. In this case it is not possible to interpret the result of the test, which must be considered not valid. Repeat the test.

Precautions
READ THE RESULT AFTER EXACTLY 10 MINUTES. The intensity of the line colour does not have any importance for the interpretation of the test result.
•Deposit 3 drops into the well shown on the cassette
•The Celiac Test can be performed when symptoms such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain and swelling, weight loss, fatigue and/ or skin reactions are present. The Test can be performed at any time of the day, on a full or empty stomach.

Storage
Store in a dry place at a temperature between 4°C and 30°C. Do not freeze.
