Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease. It is caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people aged 19 or above should receive one dose of the pertussis vaccine every 10 years to prevent pertussis, diphtheria, and tetanus.
