【What is Monitored Anaesthesia Care】
Monitored Anaesthesia Care (MAC) is a medical support technique fully administered on-site by a specialist anaesthesiologist. Through precise intravenous drug administration, it allows patients to comfortably complete their examination in a safe, deep sleep-like state. During the procedure, spontaneous breathing is maintained, and recovery is fast, significantly reducing post-anaesthesia dizziness and discomfort.
【Differences Between Monitored Anaesthesia Care vs. Sedation】
Intravenous Sedation (IVS) is typically administered directly by the endoscopist performing the examination. The depth of sedation is lighter, meaning patients may remain conscious or experience mild abdominal bloating and discomfort. In contrast, Monitored Anaesthesia Care (MAC) involves a dedicated specialist anaesthesiologist who continuously monitors vital signs and precisely adjusts dosage throughout the procedure. This delivers a deeper, pain-free sleep experience with an extremely low rate of anaesthesia failure, allowing the examining doctor to focus 100% on the endoscopic procedure—significantly elevating both safety and comfort.
