Shingles is a disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. After you've had chickenpox, the virus hide non-active in nerve tissue. When the body's immune system weakens, the virus may reactivate as shingles.

The pain caused by shingles can last for 4 weeks, seriously affecting daily life, and may cause blindness or deafness.

About 1 in 4 patients may have postherpetic neuralgia that persists for months or years. Anyone who has been infected with chickenpox has the chance to have shingles. About half of the patients were 60 years or older. The study found that people with diabetes have double to quadruple risk of having shingles than the normal people, and a 1.3 times of the risk of developing post-herpetic neuralgia. People who have ever had a shingles have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, especially those who have had a shingles in the first time. After the heal of shingles, the risk of stroke and heart disease is highest in the first year.

Vaccination of the SHINGRIX shingles vaccine can effectively reduce the chance of shingles with an overall protective effect of as high as 97%.

Dosing & Schedule:

• 2 doses series, 2-6 months interval
