FAQs
About AgeQ™
Q: What is a biomarker?
A: Biomarkers are measurable signals in your body—like a hormone, protein, or vital sign—that can reflect shifts in your health even before symptoms show up. Tracking biomarkers helps you spot changes early, so you can take action sooner.
Q: How is my AgeQ™ Score calculated?
A: While your birthdays track time, AgeQ™ tracks health. We use a validated algorithm that analyzes 7 key biomarkers (found in standard blood tests) alongside your age and gender. By comparing your unique AgeQ™ Domains against a massive database of over 300,000 individuals, we determine your AgeQ™ Score showing you how your internal systems are performing compared to the average person your age.
Q: What is the scientific basis of AgeQ™?
A: AgeQ™ is rooted in precision health and longevity. It was developed and validated using data from over 300,000 individuals across three major global studies: the Singapore Longitudinal Ageing Studies (SLAS), the NHANES (USA) and the UK Biobank. By identifying specific patterns in your biomarkers that correlate with long-term health and mortality risk, AgeQ™ provides a scientifically backed "snapshot" of your current aging trajectory
Q: How does AgeQ™ differ from other Wellness age clocks?
A; Most Wellness clocks (such as epigenetic or DNA methylation tests) require expensive, specialized lab work. AgeQ™ is designed for clinical utility and accessibility. By utilizing standardized biomarkers, it is more affordable and easily integrated into routine annual check-ups. Furthermore, it is one of the few algorithms validated across both major Asian and Western cohorts, ensuring accuracy across diverse backgrounds.
Q: Is AgeQ™ relevant for different ethnic populations?
A: AgeQ™'s strength lies in its cross-continental validation. Because the algorithm was tested and proven effective against the SLAS (Asian), NHANES (US), and UK Biobank datasets (totaling over 300,000 individuals) it is a robust predictor of health risk across diverse ethnicities and lifestyles, making it highly relevant for populations in Asia, North America, and Europe.
Getting Started
Q: Why should I find out my AgeQ™ Score?
A: AgeQ™ Score is a reflection of your body's overall well-being. It measures how your Functional Systems Targets such as metabolic, circulatory, inflammatory, clearance, and synthesis are performing compared to others. Individuals with the same chronological age may exhibit diverse aging-related signs and symptoms better described by their AgeQ™ Score.
Q: Where is AgeQ™ based?
A: AgeQ™ is developed by AgeQuotient, part of the Lucence Group which is headquartered in the US and Singapore.
Q: What is the eligible age range for this test?
A: 30 years old and above.
Preparing for Testing
Q: Do I need to fast for the blood test?
A: Fasting is required for at least 8 hours before blood draw. You can drink plain water during the fasting period.
Q: Do I need to stop taking my medications before testing?
A: You may continue taking your regular medication before your blood draw.
Q: How much blood is taken?
A: About 10mL. For comparison, a typical blood donation is around 500 mL.
Q: Can I get tested when I'm sick?
A: No. You should not be tested while experiencing an acute illness, or for 2 weeks after you have fully recovered.
Q: What medical conditions or recent procedures temporarily exclude me from testing?
A: To ensure accurate test results, you are currently ineligible for testing if any of the following apply:
- Pregnancy & Postpartum: Currently pregnant, or within 3 months post-delivery.
- Major Surgery or Hospitalization: Had major surgery or were hospitalized within the last 3 months.
- Blood Transfusion: Received a blood transfusion within the last 3 months.
- Stem Cell Therapy: Received Mesenchymal Stem Cell (MSC) treatment within the last 1 month.
- Chemotherapy: Currently undergoing active chemotherapy treatment.
Results
Q: How long does it take to get my results?
A: Your full report is expected to be delivered within 4-6 days after blood draw. It will contain your results and personalized action plan.
Q: How should I interpret my results?
A: Your chronological age tells us how many years you've lived, but your AgeQ™ Score tells us how fast your body is undergoing 'wear and tear'. If your AgeQ™ Score is ≥3 years higher than your actual age, it indicates an "older" AgeQ™ Profile."
Q: Can my AgeQ™ Score be reversed?
A: AgeQ™ Score can be reversed through targeted lifestyle changes to bring the number down and reduce your long-term health risks.
Q: What do the different Functional Systems Targets in my report mean?
A: Your report breaks down your health into five Functional Systems Targets:
- Metabolic: Assesses how efficiently your body is utilizing dietary nutrients.
- Circulatory: Assesses your body's fitness and physical stamina
- Inflammatory: Assesses your body's ability to manage everyday stressors
- Clearance: Assesses your body's internal balance
- Synthesis: Assesses your body's internal maintenance processes
Q: What should I do if I received an "older" AgeQ™ Profile?
A: An "older" AgeQ™ Profile serves as a "check engine light". The next steps to take would be:
- Review: Identify which Functional Systems Targets (e.g. Metabolic, Circulatory, etc.) are driving the score.
- Investigate: Rule out temporary factors like acute inflammation or high-stress periods.
- Optimize: Implement evidence-based interventions with your personalized action plan. Additionally, our studies also show that regular exercise, plant-based nutrition, green tea consumption, and smoking cessation significantly lower AgeQ™ Score.
- Re-test: Perform a follow-up test to monitor progress.
